The effects of semi-permanent hair dye on my hair?

I have a natural medium brown color hair, but about 3 weeks ago I used a auburn semi-permanent hair dye. I wanted to try a new color just to see what I like before I go permanent so would a semi-permanent light blonde color dye my hair since my hair is kinda dark naturally?
