Can bitten nails fully recover?

I have bitten my nails for 5 years now, and my nail bed has shrunk to about half the length of the fingertip (from the start of the nail to the tip of the finger). I have fully quit biting but as of now my nails are about a teeeensy bit longer that my nailbed. Is it possible and what can I do for the nail bed to grow out again? And how long will it take? I hate having a very long opaque white area at the end of the nail which comes from seperation from the nail bed. Is there any treatment I can have, or anything I can do for my nails to fully recover?
