Since i have really short hair now, would it look weird if a dyed my hair?

i naturally have dirty blonde hair, but ive always been in love with red hair so ive been dying it a meduim auburn color and it turned it bright red, not orange, and it was gorgeous. the problem is i shaved my head for a little girl w/ cancer and now its about 3 in. long. do you think it would still look really good if i dyed it that color, or should i tone it down a bit?
